Cosmetology Course Overview

Vanguard College of Cosmetology's course outline meets the Louisiana State Board's required hours of study for the standard cosmetology course.

The cosmetology course offers Future Professionals instruction in all phases of hair care as well as instruction in nail and skin care.  The course consists of 500 hours in theory and 1000 hours in practical instruction.  Those 1500 hours are delivered in three phases; CORE, ADAPTIVE and CREATIVE. 

CORE – Learn the rules! In this introductory course, you'll learn the basics that will let you confidently begin working on guests, and your Learning Leaders will help you blend professional skills with personal development.

ADAPTIVE – Apply the rules! Building on the skills you learned in CORE, this intermediate level teaches the value of time management, retailing, and the art of successful communication.

CREATIVE – Expand the rules! This final phase takes you through advanced hairdressing and chemical work. During your last months and weeks toward graduation, you'll spend your time in high gear, preparing yourself for your future salon career.

Career Opportunities

The job placement potential, along with the diverse career opportunities available within the beauty industry, makes for a very attractive consideration.  In addition to hair design, our industry also offers opportunities in skin care, makeup, fashion photography, nail artistry, product educators, platform artists, and salon management.  According to statistics, the average reported income for full-time professionals is incredible! 

Schedule Information

In an effort to help you fulfill your dream of entering this exciting industry, Vanguard offers day classes both full and part time. 
Full-time schedules are Tuesday through Saturday 9:15 - 4:00
Part-time schedules are Tuesday through Saturday 9:15 - 3:00

Being fully accredited by the National Accreditation Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences, Vanguard does offer financial aid to those who qualify as well as providing loans through Sallie Mae.
